Assistant Corporation Counsel

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and representation for the City, its officials, departments, staff and boards and commissions on a variety of areas of local government law.
• Draft and review of ordinances, contracts and other legal documents.
• Legal research and drafting of opinions.
• State and federal litigation including ordinance enforcement, arbitrations, real estate transactional work and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois and the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
• Excellent research skills, excellent interpersonal, negotiation, oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in local government law including familiarity with Freedom of Information Act, the Open Meetings Act, ordinance prosecution and other unique governmental legal aspects.
• Experience in a range of civil areas.
• Transactional skills and negotiating and drafting of contracts.
• Experience in real estate, development and zoning.
• Experience in employment law or collective bargaining.
• Experience in litigation and arbitration.

Benefits

Salary range is $108,400 - $173,600, depending upon qualifications and experience, plus a comprehensive benefit package, which includes membership in the IMRF pension system.
