Description

The City is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative attorney to serve as either Assistant Corporation Counsel or Associate Corporation Counsel, depending on qualifications and experience.

About the role

  • Provides specialized legal and administrative support with a primary focus on contract review, negotiation, and compliance.
  • Serves as the primary legal resource for contract development and compliance matters.
  • Advises City staff on Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and related transparency obligations.
  • Assists with other municipal legal matters.
  • Assignments and request for services are received from the Corporation Counsel, the City Manager, Department Heads, the City Council and Mayor.

Requirements

  • Highly motivated and collaborative attorney.
  • Qualifications and experience for either Assistant Corporation Counsel or Associate Corporation Counsel.

Qualifications

  • Experience in contract review, negotiation, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and related transparency obligations.
  • Ability to advise City staff and elected/appointed officials on regulatory and administrative matters.
  • Experience representing the municipality in administrative proceedings, litigation support, ordinance drafting, and enforcement actions.

Skills

  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with zoning, land use, planning, licensing, and municipal governance.
