Assistant Controller
About the role
Mr. Greens has proudly grown into one of the largest privately-owned produce distributors in Florida, Georgia, and Texas, with deliveries 365 days a year, 7 days a week, and multiple runs per day. We serve a large variety of clients, including restaurants, hotels, country clubs, caterers, grocery stores, and retail outlets.
The Assistant Controller will assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with regulatory and accounting standards. Under the supervision of the Controller, you will play a pivotal role in identifying and rectifying discrepancies, as well as contributing to the establishment of robust control systems.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and consolidate financial statements
- Perform monthly financial analysis to identify trends, variances, potential issues, and ensure GAAP compliance
- Manage journal entries and reconciliations
- Create, establish, and maintain internal controls and policies
- Standardize accounting procedures and policies across the entire company
- Coordinate and complete annual audits
- Participate in the accounting due diligence of potential M&A targets
- Establish, standardize, and coordinate financial reporting for acquired companies
- Participate in ERP implementation and enhance accounting operations
- Lead internal audit functions to ensure proper processes and controls in areas such as receiving, billing, collections, accounts payable, and inventory
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Support budget and forecasting activities
- Assist with the budget process
- Analyze and report cost variances
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Possession of a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) credential is highly desirable but not necessary
- Familiarity with accounting software and financial management systems
- 3 years of experience in accounting or finance roles
Skills
- Expert knowledge of accounting and financial principles, regulations, and best practices
- Capability to analyze financial data and identify trends, variances, and potential issues
- Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Excellent understanding of governmental guidelines and tax laws that affect the company
- Ability to learn other accounting software systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related programs
- Ability to maintain confidential and meticulous records
