About the role
This position assists the Head Coach in the development of student athletes in a manner consistent with the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) coaching standards and the College’s guiding principles. This is a part-time, seasonal position September through June. This position is overtime-exempt and receives a stipend of up to $4,000, pro-rated based upon the start date. Additional campus employment may be available based on the individual's qualification and interest.
Responsibilities
- Provides quality coaching and instruction to student-athletes participating in the program.
- Develops, implements, and teaches related training sessions and techniques.
- Aids in the teaching of individual skills and strategies.
- Builds, develops, and evaluates teamwork.
- Develops and enforces training rules.
- Maintains BBCC Athletic facilities used by the program.
- Supervises student-athletes on trips and onsite during all program related practices, games, and functions.
- Maintains and supports the academic performance, leadership, and progress of student athletes.
- Scouts and recruits student athletes who are qualified both academically and athletically for intercollegiate competition.
- Works cooperatively with head coach to maintain and retain records on students, including, but not limited to, athletic eligibility budgets, recruitment, and transportation.
- Serves as a role model to assist the team members in developing and displaying appropriate attitudes and behavior expected of athletic teams and individuals representing BBCC.
- Assists head coach in providing post-season evaluation of all players.
- Establishes, develops, and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with high school coaches and programs.
- Counsels and mentors student athletes.
- Coordinates fundraising activities in order to enhance and develop athletic programs.
- Behaves in a manner that is consistent with the NWAC codebook, including but not limited to: NWAC coach’s code of conduct, coach’s standards and procedures, job responsibilities, and Concussion Management. Includes passing NWAC required tests.
- Fulfills other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associates degree from a regionally accredited institution OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience as a player or coach in chosen sport (volleyball, wrestling, basketball, baseball, and softball).
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (or will obtain if selected).
- Valid unrestricted Washington State driver's license.
- Experience working within a diverse environment, inclusive of individuals of varying social, ability, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution (desirable).
- Coaching and/or playing experience at the collegiate level.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with faculty, students and staff within a campus community; and the ability to foster positive resolutions when conflicts occur.
- Teaching and teambuilding, related to student athletes.
- Program fundraising and development.
- Ability to use a personal computer, Microsoft Office products, and database programs.
- Bilingual English/Spanish fluency (desirable).
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to coach students effectively and to evaluate their performance in the assigned activity.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, professional colleagues from other colleges and the public.
- Sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, ability, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
