Assistant City Engineer/Supervising Civil Engineer
About the role
The City of Oxnard’s Public Works Department is seeking an Assistant City Engineer/Supervising Civil Engineer to lead, oversee, review, and perform work activities and duties assigned to the in-house design engineering and surveying staff as well as the administrative staff in the Department of Public Works Engineering Division.
Responsibilities
- Be responsible for administering and managing the Engineering Division's in-house design team and the administrative team
- Provide direction and technical guidance to staff design engineers and surveyors, project managers, engineering technicians and support staff
- Coordinate design services for the City’s Capital Improvement Program
- Attend the Design Advisory Committee and Planning Commission as the division representative
- Participate and attend professional group meetings as well as stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the engineering and maintenance field
- Develop and maintain the City’s Public Works Engineering Procedures Manual
- Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with City staff and all those contacted in the course of work
- Directly manage some of the more complex CIP projects
Requirements
The Engineering Division manages all Public Works engineering, design, and project management functions. The division is divided into four distinct Sections: Engineering/Design; Utility Engineering; CIP Project Management; and Transportation and Mobility.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or directly related field
- Experience: Five (5) years of professional engineering and/or construction/project management experience and two (2) years of supervisory experience
- Licenses/Certifications: Professional Engineering (PE) Registration
Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office/Google and web-based tools. Effective communication skills and ability to develop effective working relationships are required.

Pay
The advertised salary is for this position only.
Schedule
The normal work week is Monday through Thursday 8:00am to 6:00pm and alternating Fridays 8:00am-5:00pm. The standard work environment varies depending on assignment but is typically either primarily in an office setting or out in the field.
