Assistant Chemistry & Biochemistry Lab Manager

About the role

Assist the Chemistry & Biochemistry Lab Manager in stockroom and daily lab operations, including setup, cleanup, chemical preparation, and maintaining chemical inventory and instructional laboratory equipment in accordance with university safety procedures.

The position involves student supervision and mentorship, administrative support, collaboration and professional communication, and continuous improvement, adhering to established stockroom procedures while proactively providing constructive input to the Lab Manager for ongoing process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Managing setup, cleanup, chemical preparation, and maintaining chemical inventory and instructional laboratory equipment
• Supervising, mentoring, and guiding student employees working in the stockroom
• Maintaining records of safety training, laboratory schedules, and other administrative tasks
• Working collaboratively with lab professors and professionally navigating high-pressure situations with multiple competing priorities

Requirements

• Associate degree in chemistry or related field
• Computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets
• Working knowledge of chemical safety, handling, storage, and disposal

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience, certification, and/or interest in chemical safety, handling, storage, and disposal procedure management
• Quality assurance and/or Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
• Leadership, organizational abilities, and student worker mentorship
• Clear, professional communication and multi-tasking skills under tight schedules

Pay

Salary Hourly Pay Rate $23, may go up depending on candidate qualifications
