In This Role

You will serve as both a Laboratory Supervisor (60%) and Individual Contributor (40%).

• As a Lab Supervisor, oversee Laboratory Technicians across various clinical departments, leveraging your passion for coaching and developing employees to help them reach business goals and their full potential.
• Organize staff schedules, coordinate workflow, and manage costs and metrics.
• Problem-solve daily, troubleshooting diagnostic analyzers and resolving workflow or turnaround time challenges.
• Act as a business and people leader for the lab and line of business, bringing enthusiasm for teamwork, success, innovation, and excellence.
• As an individual contributor, use automated analyzers, microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries, and diseases.
• Perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal, or pet biopsy samples, setting up and running lab tests, and reading and releasing results according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

What You Will Need To Succeed

• Direct supervision of 5+ employees in a fast-paced and/or high-volume work environment.
• Operations leadership experience from any industry; knowledge of human clinical or veterinary testing and procedures is ideal.
• Experience working in a laboratory, including setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (e.g., microscopes, clinical diagnostic analyzers) is a plus.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume, innovative work environment.
• Passion for people leadership and promoting the health and well-being of animals.
• Ability to work a full-time schedule that may vary slightly based on business needs.
• Meet physical requirements for lab work: standing and sitting for extended periods, phone and computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50 lbs, and specific vision abilities (close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus).
• Potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.

• Salary targeting $107,000 annually, with flexibility based on experience.

Schedule

• Full-time (40 hours/week) position with scheduled shifts Monday - Friday, 4:00 am - 12:30 pm.
• Shifts and hours may vary depending on business needs.
• Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.

This role is based on-site at our Portland, OR lab.
