Assistant Chemistry & Biochemistry Lab Manager

About the role

Assist the Chemistry & Biochemistry Lab Manager in stockroom and daily lab operations, student supervision and mentorship, administrative support, collaboration with lab professors, and continuous improvement of stockroom procedures.

Responsibilities

• Managing setup, cleanup, chemical preparation, and maintaining chemical inventory and instructional laboratory equipment in accordance with university safety procedures.
• Supervising, mentoring, and guiding student employees working in the stockroom.
• Maintaining records of safety training, laboratory schedules, and other administrative tasks.
• Working collaboratively with lab professors and professionally navigating high-pressure situations with multiple competing priorities.
• Adhering to established stockroom procedures while proactively providing constructive input to the Lab Manager for ongoing process improvements.

Requirements

• Associate degree in chemistry or related field.
• Computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets.
• Working knowledge of chemical safety, handling, storage, and disposal.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience, certification, and/or interest in chemical safety, handling, storage, and disposal procedure management.
• Demonstrated experience, certification, and/or interest in quality assurance and/or Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational abilities, and student worker mentorship.
• Clear, professional communication and multi-tasking skills under tight schedules.

Hourly pay rate: $23; may increase depending on candidate qualifications.
