About the role

The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine, Section of Surgery invites qualified individuals to apply for an open faculty position in the Academic Clinician (AC) track in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

Responsibilities

  • Primarily devoted to clinical service (42 weeks a year) in the Matthew J Ryan Veterinary Hospital
  • Participate in the clinical instruction of veterinary students, interns, and residents
  • Clinic time is divided between soft tissue surgery and surgical oncology, with flexibility in the amount of service in each area
  • Time away from clinical service is used for professional development, study for Board preparation (if needed), citizenship to the Department, and didactic teaching
  • Developing or maintaining an independent scholarship or research is not a focus of the AC track, is not a requirement for reappointment or promotion, and should not detract from excellence in clinical service and teaching

Requirements

  • A history of or potential as an exemplary clinician and educator
  • Board-certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or completion of an accredited surgical residency and preparation for board certification
