JOB SUMMARY

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Chemistry.

About the role

Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km²) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality instruction and facilitate effective student learning to undergraduate courses in Chemistry and related courses using a variety of current instructional modalities
  • Create, prepare, and supervise undergraduate laboratories and lab activities
  • Use both internal (g. D2L) and external learning management systems to deliver relevant course materials and information to students
  • Develop course objectives, assignments, and means of evaluating student performance for the course
  • Provide prompt feedback on student assignments
  • Engage undergraduate level students in research opportunities
  • Develop and maintain an externally funded research program
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemistry. Ability to successfully pass a background check. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communicative skills and teamwork
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Background in Inorganic Chemistry. Prior experience teaching Chemistry lectures and laboratories at the undergraduate level. Ability to create learning environments in which students can learn and thrive. Have energy- or catalysis-related research experience
