Assistant Architect
About the role
NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service. DOF’s The Administration and Planning Division is responsible for managing and overseeing administrative and operational services for the agency. This includes the daily management of the Offices of Financial Management, Purchasing and Contracts, Operational Services, and Diversity and Inclusion. The Office of Operational Services coordinates and directs all facilities-related operational support services for both public and privately leased properties agency-wide, including space planning, telecommunications, security, fire safety, health and safety, and fleet and transportation operations. The division also includes the agency warehouse, print shop, and mailroom operations. The Facilities Management Unit seeks an Assistant Architect to assist in the planning, coordinating, and administration of design and construction projects for leased and City-owned facilities.
Responsibilities
- Prepare architectural drawings and construction documents.
- Review architectural plans and specifications and design submissions.
- Conduct field inspections and site visits.
- Assist with coordinating design and construction projects.
- Support agency space planning and workplace improvement initiatives.
- Assist with renovation and improvement projects.
- Review project compliance with applicable building codes and agency standards.
- Coordinate project schedules, documentation and stakeholder communications.
- Support construction administration throughout the project implementation.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor or a Master of Architecture degree that is the first professional degree in architecture from an accredited college; or
- A Bachelor of Science degree in architecture that is the first four years of a five-year first professional degree program in architecture from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in architectural work; or
- A valid New York State Registration as an Architect.
The following are examples of four-year degrees that are NOT acceptable to meet the education requirement: Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology; Bachelor of Professional Studies in Architecture; Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts issued by the Architectural Department of a college; Bachelor of Science in Art and Design issued by the Architectural Department of a college.
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Project and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM).
- Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, collaboration and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
- Knowledge of architectural drafting, detailing, and construction documentation.
- Basic knowledge of project management and construction administration.
- Ability to conduct site visits, surveys, and field inspections.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, contractors, consultants and agency stakeholders.
- Knowledge of cost estimation and construction materials.
