About the role

We are seeking an experienced Assembly Manufacturing Engineer to support and optimize the assembly of complex, tight-tolerance components in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for production support, process improvement, equipment procurement, capital planning, new product launches, and continuous improvement initiatives utilizing advanced automation technologies, including robotics, vision systems, and power-and-free conveyor systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the process owner for a designated manufacturing department, ensuring reliable, stable, and sustainable processes related to equipment, tooling, gaging, quality, capacity, and documentation.

  • Develop and implement improvements that enhance safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance.

  • Maintain and update manufacturing documentation, including FMEAs, work instructions, tooling sheets, and process standards.

  • Lead new product launch activities and develop manufacturing plans that define:

    • Operator work content
    • Equipment capabilities
    • Quality control requirements
    • Material and information flow
  • Collaborate with product development and design engineering teams to improve manufacturability and reduce production costs.

  • Lead departmental capacity planning and capital forecasting efforts.

  • Evaluate machine builders and equipment suppliers through site visits, technical assessments, demonstrated capabilities, and commercial considerations.

  • Develop equipment specifications and procurement documentation for new assembly, machining, testing, and automated manufacturing equipment.

  • Manage equipment development, qualification, acceptance testing, installation, startup, and production handoff.

  • Lead equipment modifications and process enhancements to improve efficiency, capability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

  • Troubleshoot and continuously improve support for automated manufacturing systems, including:

    • Robotics
    • Vision systems
    • Conveyor systems
    • Assembly and test equipment
  • Drive equipment modifications and process enhancements to improve efficiency, capability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

  • Support production and maintenance teams in resolving equipment downtime issues involving:

    • Mechanical systems
    • Electrical systems
    • Hydraulics
    • Pneumatics
    • Coolant systems
  • Investigate tooling and quality-related issues and implement corrective actions using structured problem-solving methodologies such as:

    • 8D
    • Six Sigma
    • Root Cause Analysis
  • Lead cost reduction and continuous improvement projects focused on productivity, throughput, waste reduction, and operational efficiency.

  • Develop capital expenditure justifications and authorization request (AR) documentation.

  • Partner with operations, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to improve departmental performance and financial metrics.

  • Participate in daily production meetings and provide technical leadership to support manufacturing objectives.

  • Train team leaders and operators on equipment, processes, and best practices.

  • Manage spare parts strategies and inventory recommendations to minimize equipment downtime.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment.

  • Experience supporting automated assembly processes and manufacturing equipment.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience leading projects from concept through implementation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering.

  • Automotive manufacturing experience.

  • Experience with advanced assembly and test systems.

  • Knowledge of PLC programming (Ladder Logic).

  • Experience with robotics and machine vision systems.

Preferred Skills

  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Leverage Lean Manufacturing Principles.

  • Implement Six Sigma Methodologies.

  • Lead projects from concept through implementation.

  • Optimize process and drive continuous improvement.

  • Reduce waste and improve operational efficiency.

  • Implement changeover reduction and SMED Techniques.

  • Design, validate, and optimize tooling.

  • Perform metrology and manufacturing quality systems.

  • Implement cleanliness and contamination control processes.

  • Implement root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.

  • Lead continuous improvement leadership.

Work Environment

Manufacturing plant environment with significant interaction on the production floor. Support for multiple shifts, including occasional evening or weekend support as business needs require. Hands-on involvement with automated equipment, machinery, and manufacturing processes.
