Armed Contract Security Officer - Harriman, TN
About the role
Guards industrial or commercial property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Essential duties and responsibilities are outlined in assigned post orders and may include:
- Responding to active shooter incidents by moving toward shots fired to effectively neutralize the threat
- Following all assigned post orders, both general and specific
- Applying use of force rules based on the situation and employing graduated use of force
- Patrolling buildings, grounds, docks, logging camp areas, or work sites
- Patrolling lobbies, corridors, and public rooms; conferring with management; interviewing guests and employees; interrogating persons to detect infringements and investigate disturbances, complaints, thefts, vandalisms, and accidents
- Detecting fires, unsafe conditions, and missing or inoperative safety equipment
- Examining doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure
- Performing and setting thermostatic controls to maintain specified temperature in buildings or cold storage rooms
- Inspecting equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred
- Registering at watch stations to record time of inspection trips
- Inspecting assigned areas and recording data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment
- Reporting irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked
- Warning violators of rule infractions and apprehending or expelling persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts
- Notifying staff of the presence of persons with questionable reputations
- Regulating vehicle and pedestrian traffic at plant entrance to maintain orderly flow
- Driving radio-equipped vehicle through client’s establishment, checking alarms and locating sources of alarm
- Sound alarms or calling police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons
- Assisting management and enforcement officers in emergencies
- Contacting supervisor by radio or telephone to report irregularities and obtain further instructions
- Writing investigation and automobile usage reports
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Armed Security Officers are subject to supervision from Post Supervisors, Operations Managers, Field Supervisors, and Senior Operations Managers.

Requirements
- Three years of security experience within the past five years, or
- Three years of military or National Guard (active duty or reserve), or
- Associate’s degree or higher in a security-related or law enforcement-related field, or
- Successful completion of a police officer’s basic training academy
Candidates who do not meet one of these requirements but have equivalent education and/or experience must have special approval.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos using the English language.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts with basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with accuracy.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
Some posts may require familiarity with Internet programs, word processing software, or other software as required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
- Current/valid state driver’s license
Where applicable:
- State Security Officer License
- Certification in the use of weapons
- State Armed License if required
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification may be needed
- Vehicle operators must be at least 25 years of age and have a driving record with no more than one moving violation
- Ability to pass a drug screen and criminal background check
Physical Demands
Personnel shall undergo and successfully pass an approved physical evaluation prior to assignment, demonstrating good physical condition, appropriate endurance, ability to protect themselves and others, ability to effectively use firearms and other equipment, ability to function in applicable environments and climates, and ability to withstand sudden emotional stress and physical exertion. Personnel may be required to run, jump, climb, or crawl. Annual physical abilities assessments are required to verify continued ability to meet physical requirements.
