About the role
Guards industrial or commercial property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
Responsibilities
- Respond to active shooter incidents by moving toward shots fired to neutralize the threat.
- Follow all assigned post orders, both general and specific.
- Apply use-of-force rules based on the situation, employing graduated force as necessary.
- Patrol buildings, grounds, docks, logging camps, work sites, lobbies, corridors, and public rooms.
- Confer with management, interview guests and employees, and interrogate persons to detect infringements and investigate disturbances, complaints, thefts, vandalisms, and accidents.
- Detect fires, unsafe conditions, and missing or inoperative safety equipment.
- Examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure.
- Set and maintain thermostatic controls to specified temperatures.
- Inspect equipment and machinery for signs of tampering.
- Register at watch stations to record inspection times.
- Inspect assigned areas and record data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and equipment malfunctions for supervisory use.
- Report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking pipes, and unlocked security doors.
- Warn violators of rule infractions (e.g., loitering, smoking, carrying forbidden articles) and apprehend or expel suspicious or criminal persons.
- Notify staff of persons with questionable reputations.
- Regulate vehicle and pedestrian traffic at plant entrances to maintain orderly flow.
- Drive radio-equipped vehicle through client premises, check alarms, and locate alarm sources.
- Sound alarms or call police/fire departments in case of fire or unauthorized persons.
- Assist management and enforcement officers in emergencies.
- Contact supervisor by radio or telephone to report irregularities and obtain further instructions.
- Write investigation and automobile usage reports.

Qualifications
- Three years of security experience within the past five years, or
- Three years of military or National Guard (active duty or reserve), or
- Associate’s degree or higher in a security-related or law enforcement-related field, or
- Successful completion of a police officer’s basic training academy.
Candidates without one of the above may be considered with equivalent education and/or experience subject to special approval.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts using basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with accuracy.
Reasoning Ability

Some posts may require familiarity with Internet programs, word processing software, or other software as required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
- Current/valid state driver’s license
- State Security Officer License (where applicable)
- Certification in the use of weapons and state armed license if required
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification may be required
- Vehicle operators must be at least 25 years of age and have a driving record with no more than one moving violation
Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
Physical Demands
Personnel must undergo and pass an approved physical evaluation prior to assignment, demonstrating good physical condition, appropriate endurance, ability to protect themselves and others, effective use of firearms and equipment, and ability to function in applicable environments and climates. Personnel may be required to run, jump, climb, or crawl. Annual physical abilities assessments are required to verify continued capability to perform essential tasks such as frequent walking, standing, lifting, climbing, responding to emergencies, and operating security equipment. Assessments identify limitations and may require corrective action, medical evaluation, remediation, or reassignment.
