Area Manager, Fulfillment Operations

About the role
The Area Manager is a people-first leader responsible for directly managing and developing a team of leads and associates in our fulfillment centers. You’ll drive process improvement, maintain a safe work environment, track operational performance across various metrics, foster employee engagement, and own the development of your team. This role reports to the Operations Manager, Fulfillment Operations, and provides exposure across departments and shifts to contribute to operational and cultural excellence.
Responsibilities
- Manage, build, and develop a team of 30+ warehouse associates (Temp and FTE).
- Review weekly work forecasts and identify productivity requirements to meet overall building objectives.
- Partner with other Area Managers to balance labor, ensuring an efficient shift while meeting all goals.
- Own operational metric reporting, including VCPO, UPH, OPH (Batch, Labelling, Pick, Pack), on-time receiving and shipping, merchant SLAs, and Injury Rate.
- Identify areas for improvement, troubleshoot problems, and implement solutions to maintain standards.
- Ensure teams are properly trained on processes and procedures, understand metrics and performance goals, and have their needs addressed.
- Assign tasks, provide coaching and accountability, and motivate the team toward achieving performance goals.
- Develop Lead talent by providing necessary tools, training, and resources to meet standards.
- Actively foster employee engagement onsite by participating in activities, events, and programs that contribute to workplace culture and employee wellbeing.
- Review and approve associate timecards daily.
- Serve as the contact for escalated issues, mitigating risk and resolving them quickly and effectively.
- Support all safety programs and OSHA compliance to ensure a safe work environment for all associates.
- Supervise daily workflows to ensure products are handled and stored correctly in accordance with defined safety and quality procedures.
- Maintain compliance with hygiene and contamination control standards and promote a culture of accountability among associates.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Requirements
- 2+ years of people management and operational leadership experience within a high-volume 3PL fulfillment environment.
- Preferred experience in ecommerce, retail, and manufacturing industries.
- Ability to manage performance, deliver feedback, train, and develop talent for professional growth.
- Solid computer skills and working knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerBI, and TMS systems.
- Strong analytical skills and experience tracking and achieving KPIs.
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
- Comfortability navigating and managing ambiguity.
- Hardworking with a focus on learning, detail-oriented, and passionate about helping small businesses compete online.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with business stakeholders and carrier partners.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts and non-traditional hours as needed to support business operations.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs without restriction.
- Able to stand and walk continuously during an 8-10 hour shift.
- Able to bend, stoop, reach above, and push/pull frequently.

Pay
ShipBob is targeting a salary range of $60,000 - $70,000 for this role, with a full base pay range of $50,363 - $83,938. This role also includes eligibility for participation in the Company’s discretionary bonus plan.
Schedule
Wednesday - Saturday, 4:00 PM - 2:30 AM.
Location: Sort Center, 400 Smoketree Plaza, North Aurora, IL 60542.
