ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Blasting Operations Design blasts utilizing drone-acquired survey data, blasting software, and georeferenced 3D rock mass models to optimize burden, spacing and blast geometry for target fragmentation outcomes.
- Leverage Measure While Drilling (MWD) data – including penetration rate, rock hardness, and flush pressure – to characterize rock mass variability and refine charge designs prior to loading.
- Utilize fragmentation analysis software to evaluate post-blast muck pile results, compare against design targets, and document findings for continuous improvement.
- Integrate georeferenced blast hole data and rock strength models into blast design workflows to account for geologic variability across the pit.
- Prepare, load, and initiate blasts in accordance with project specifications, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Cook up coordination blasting activities with site leadership and crew members to reduce operational disruptions and maintain safe work zones.
INSPECTION, COMPLIANCE, AND DOCUMENTATION
- Conduct pre-blast and post-blast inspections to evaluate site conditions, verify blast results, and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Maintain accurate blasting records, logs, and digital reports including MWD data exports, fragmentation analysis outputs, and georeferenced blast maps.
- Promptly report any incidents, misfires, or irregularities.
- Contribute to post-blast review meetings by presenting fragmentation analysis data and MWD correlation findings to site leadership.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical training in blasting and mining.
- Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of blasting experience with experience in pit development.
- Required Licenses & Certifications: Valid blaster’s license or certification as required by state and/or local regulations, Must be able to receive ATF clearance to accept and handle explosives, Valid driver’s license, Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (FAA Drone License) or ability and commitment to acquire within an established timeframe.
