About the role
Xcel Energy Distribution Department is looking to fill an Apprentice (1st Year - 4th Year) or Journey Line Worker position for our Seminole, TX location. As an apprentice lineman you will be taught a very rewarding career in constructing, maintenance, removal and storm restoration of high voltage distribution and transmission lines. Xcel Energy has a very reputable Department of Labor certified apprentice program that is recognized throughout the United States.
Responsibilities
- Construction, maintenance and operations of distribution and transmission lines
- Supports maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution and transmission lines
- Respond to after hour and weekend call outs
- Travel for extended time periods as needed
- Perform aerial work in a safety belt in a safe and efficient manner
- Use shovels, sledgehammers and 90 lb. jack hammers
- Work in confined areas
Apprentice Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL Class A) or ability to acquire it within 120 days of start date
- Successfully taken the EEI CAST Assessment
- Totally committed to safety, quality work and customer service
- Able and willing to respond to after hour and weekend call outs
- Position could possibly require travel for extended time periods
- Apprentices are required to attend 2nd, 3rd and 4th year apprentice schools
- Mentally competent, able to communicate and able to comprehend instructions and build on previous experience
- Exhibit a teamwork attitude and be able to work with others
- Adequate physical stature to lift and maneuver up to 90 lbs.
- Climb wood poles up to 100' tall
- Pass the federal DOT physical examination
- Reside within 20 miles of the Seminole, TX Service Center
Journeyman Lineman Qualifications
- Must successfully score on the Journeyman Assessment
- Completion of an approved apprentice line program is required or 5 years of progressive electric lineman experience
- Class A CDL
- Capable of performing all aspects of electric distribution overhead, underground, construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Available for emergency callouts as per a schedule
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
- Position could possibly require travel for extended time periods
- Physically fit and able to lift objects up to 90 pounds, pass a physical examination and be able to perform strenuous physical labor under all types of conditions
- Experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers and groundwork with utility line crew required
- High awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules is required at all times
- Reside within 20 miles of the Seminole, TX service center
- Selection criteria may include testing and/or assessment
- Must pass the Xcel Energy security and drug screening
Pay
$30.93 to $53.16 per hour

Schedule
Must be available for emergency callouts as per a schedule and respond to after hour and weekend call outs. Position could possibly require travel for extended time periods.
