Apprentice (1st Year - 4th Year) or Journey Line Worker - Hobbs, NM
Xcel Energy Distribution Department is looking to fill multiple Apprentice (1st Year - 4th Year) or Journey Line Worker positions for our Hobbs, NM location. As an Apprentice or Journey Line Worker, you will be taught or experience a rewarding career in constructing, maintenance, removal, and storm restoration of high-voltage distribution lines. Xcel Energy has a reputable Department of Labor-certified apprentice program recognized throughout the United States.
About the Role
This position is responsible for construction, maintenance, and operations, including supporting maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution lines.
Apprentice Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL Class A) or ability to acquire it within 120 days of start date
- Successfully taken the EEI CAST Assessment
- Total commitment to safety, quality work, and customer service
- Ability and willingness to respond to after-hour and weekend callouts
- Potential travel for extended time periods
- Required attendance at 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-year apprentice schools
- Mental competence, ability to communicate, and comprehension of instructions
- Teamwork attitude and ability to work with others
- Adequate physical stature to:
- Lift and maneuver up to 90 lbs
- Climb wood poles up to 100' tall
- Perform aerial work in a safety belt safely and efficiently
- Use shovels, sledgehammers, and 90 lb. jackhammers
- Work in confined areas
- Pass the federal DOT physical examination
- Complete all application questions and upload a resume for consideration
- Reside within 20 miles of the Hobbs, NM Service Center
Journeyman Lineman Qualifications
- Successfully score on the Journeyman Assessment
- Completion of an approved apprentice line program or 5 years of progressive electric lineman experience
- Class A CDL
- Capability to perform all aspects of electric distribution overhead, underground, construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Availability for emergency callouts as per schedule
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
- Potential travel for extended time periods
- Physically fit to lift objects up to 90 pounds, pass a physical examination, and perform strenuous physical labor under all types of conditions
- Experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers, and groundwork with utility line crew
- High awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules
- Reside within 20 miles of the Hobbs, NM service center
- Pass the Xcel Energy security and drug screening
Pay
The anticipated starting base pay for this position is $30.93 to $53.16 per hour.
