Apprentice (1st Year - 4th Year) Line Worker - Carlsbad, NM

About the role

Xcel Energy Distribution Construction is seeking an Apprentice (1st Year - 4th Year) Line Worker for our Carlsbad, NM location. As an Apprentice Line Worker, you will be trained in a rewarding career involving the construction, maintenance, removal, and storm restoration of high-voltage distribution and transmission lines. Xcel Energy offers a reputable Department of Labor-certified apprentice program recognized throughout the United States.

This position supports the maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution and transmission lines and may require travel for extended periods. Apprentices are required to attend 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-year apprentice schools.

Responsibilities

• Construct, maintain, and operate high-voltage distribution and transmission lines
• Support emergency repairs and storm restoration efforts
• Respond to after-hours and weekend call-outs
• Perform physically demanding tasks, including:
  • Lifting and maneuvering up to 90 lbs
  • Climbing wood poles up to 100' tall
  • Performing aerial work in a safety belt
  • Using tools such as shovels, sledgehammers, and 90 lb. jackhammers
  • Working in confined areas
• Collaborate with a team and follow safety protocols

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED
• Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL Class A) or ability to acquire it within 120 days of start date
• Successful completion of the EEI CAST Assessment
• Commitment to safety, quality work, and customer service
• Ability to comprehend instructions and build on previous experience
• Mental competence and strong communication skills
• Teamwork attitude and ability to work with others
• Must pass the federal DOT physical examination
• Must reside within 20 miles of the Carlsbad Service Center
• Must complete all application questions and upload a resume for consideration

Pay

Anticipated starting base pay: $30.93 to $38.17 per hour.
