About the role
Xcel Energy is looking to fill multiple Apprentice Line Worker (1st Year - 4th year) positions for our Amarillo, TX location(s). As an apprentice lineman you will be taught a very rewarding career in constructing, maintenance, removal and storm restoration of high voltage distribution and transmission lines. Xcel Energy has a very reputable Department of Labor certified apprentice program that is recognized throughout the United States.
Responsibilities
- Construction, maintenance and operations of distribution and transmission lines
- Supports maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution and transmission lines
- Respond to after hour and weekend call outs
- Travel for extended time periods as required
- Attend 2nd, 3rd and 4th year apprentice schools
- Climb wood poles up to 100' tall
- Perform aerial work in a safety belt in a safe and efficient manner
- Use shovels, sledgehammers and 90 lb. jack hammers
- Work in confined areas
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL Class A) or ability to acquire it within 120 days of start date
- Successfully taken the EEI CAST Assessment
- Must be totally committed to safety, quality work and customer service
- Must be mentally competent, able to communicate and able to comprehend instructions and build on previous experience
- Must exhibit a teamwork attitude and be able to work with others
- Adequate physical stature to lift and maneuver up to 90 lbs.
- Must pass the federal DOT physical examination
- Must reside within 20 miles of any of the Amarillo Service Centers
Pay
$30.93 to $38.17 per hour (starting base pay)

Schedule
Must be able and willing to respond to after hour and weekend call outs. Position could possibly require travel for extended time periods.
