About the role
The role involves applying expert knowledge of IT application management to support a specific AAFES business function. Tasks include reviewing, analyzing, and modifying programming systems, creating detailed program specifications, ensuring compliance with security and audit policies, monitoring application system performance, developing standard operating procedures, and providing third-level support.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and design solutions, develop program specifications, prepare work estimates.
- Interpret program specifications, programs, tests, and debug programs.
- Research and troubleshoot application issues.
- Create and maintain program documentation.
- Manage reporting and work challenges in a 24x7 work environment.
- Support Exchange operations, which may involve shift work, on-call, and after-hours project work.
- Work in a rapidly changing IT environment requiring quick solutions and evolving skills.
- Support IT work at HQ with occasional TDY.
Requirements
- Five years of experience in computer system design and computer programming using the applicable computer languages.
- Complete IT professional certification or training program in programming/development in computer science.
- Bachelor's degree in information technology and three years of experience in computer system design and computer programming using the applicable computer languages.
- Five to seven years of experience in mainframe system design and programming using COBOL.
- Two to four years of recent hands-on experience with one or more core subsystems such as Accounts Payable, Project Cost Management, Asset Management, Accounts Receivable, Procurement.
- Experience with Walker Financial Systems tools like Report builder, Transaction Generator, Dialog Object Processor, Maintainer, Connector, File Access Modules (Assembler).
- Knowledge of IBM z/OS, COBOL, JCL, DB2/SQL, CICS, VSAM, Assembler, IMS DB/DC, CASEGEN/TELON, Mainframe Utilities (SYNCSORT, IDCAMS, File Manager), Mainframe Job Scheduler (IWS).
- Experience with Mainframe Development Tools like IBM Developer for z/OS (IDz) or equivalent IDE.
- Familiarity with version control and CI/CD workflows, specifically GitLab or Git-based workflows, and basic CI/CD pipeline familiarity.
- Experience with Work Management tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and ServiceNow.
