Application Analyst II
About the Role
The Application Analyst II serves as an experienced team member of the Applications team, responsible for supporting, enhancing, and optimizing assigned clinical and business systems. In addition to providing day-to-day incident resolution and support, the analyst partners closely with operational stakeholders to analyze workflows, gather requirements, and implement enhancements and solutions that improve patient care and user experience. This role functions as a primary point of contact for application support, ensuring timely issue resolution and effective communication while upholding adherence to MyMichigan Health's policies, procedures, and business operations.
The Analyst II demonstrates growing independence in managing moderately complex requests, provides input into service delivery decisions, and supports operational governance. They actively seek opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce unnecessary steps, and suggest improvements while ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and change management standards.
Responsibilities
- Uses a strong understanding of business systems and industry requirements to work with business owners and users to document requirements and workflows. Designs and maintains content and key system controls (code tables, master files, user interfaces, etc.).
- Troubleshoots problems and incidents, recommending innovative solutions.
- Plans, executes, and documents supporting evidence of application testing.
- Collects information regarding potential system enhancement needs and analyzes new functionality in releases to determine how it should be used.
- Analyzes application capabilities to optimize its use within workflows.
- Assists in cross-training team members and users.
- Participates in additional projects including software updates and changes.
- Exhibits a commitment to exceptional customer service while providing Go-Live or daily end-user support and training of applications.
- Configures, tests, and maintains system functionality to meet the needs of end-users in supported areas.
- Completes complex build and configuration tasks and resolves advanced issues with minimal support from Senior Analysts and vendors.
- Translates operational requirements into system design, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant workflows.
- Maintains accurate documentation of system configurations, changes, and support activities.
- Creates knowledge-based support articles to document resolutions and educates others on them.
- Represents IT in Operational Workgroups with support from leadership and senior analysts, escalating issues and providing recommendations for solutions.
- Supports multiple applications, including design, build, testing, training, and troubleshooting with minimal guidance.
- Performs build tasks following best practices with minimal support.
- Provides consultative support to operational teams regarding system best practices and workflow design.
- Manages medium-size requests from inception to completion with minimal support, including planning timelines and coordinating resources within IT.
- Acts as a liaison between IT and operational departments, facilitating conversations that balance critical and organizational priorities with technical feasibility.
- Communicates statuses with leadership and subject matter experts, as well as all application changes, enhancements, and procedures to relevant stakeholders.
- Provides guidance and support to less experienced analysts through sharing knowledge and expertise.
- Participates in an on-call support rotation to address organizational urgent needs.
- May require travel between MyMichigan and affiliated locations to support applications and go-live implementations.
Requirements
One (1) or more active Epic Certification(s)/Accreditation(s) or other relevant healthcare certifications, demonstrating expertise in specific applications.
Two (2) or more years of prior work experience within Healthcare IT, with a strong understanding of clinical workflows, healthcare terminology, and industry standards.
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s in IT, business, or healthcare field with two (2) or more years of work-related experience providing advanced application system support.
- Strong analytical thinking skills to dissect complex problems, assess various options, and make informed decisions in support of applications.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for engaging with stakeholders, team members, and end users in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to interact positively with end users, empathizing with their needs and translating them into system enhancements.
- Effectively translates and communicates complex technical solutions across various groups to drive informed decision-making by stakeholders.
- Willing and able to adapt to changing circumstances and requirements.
- Strong time management skills related to handling multiple evolving priorities, new projects, and emerging technologies.
- Strong attention to detail in all aspects of work, ensuring accuracy, data integrity, and compliance with standards and regulations.

- Overall vision and hearing are necessary with or without assisted devices.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time; may require postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials; must follow MyMichigan Health’s bloodborne pathogen and TB testing requirements.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular and predictable attendance, and stay awake.
- Overall dexterity is required, including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling; may require repetition of these movements regularly.
