About the role
The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Analyst I to join the Enforcement Branch. This position supports both the Sacramento (Natomas) and Golden Gate (Benicia) Regional Offices. The incumbent's physical work location will be in Sacramento; however, they will routinely travel to the Golden Gate Regional Office.
The Analyst I performs analytical evidence collection, handling, and disposition, as well as evidence room maintenance for the Regional Offices. This role ensures strict compliance with evidence chain of custody procedures to meet legal requirements, eliminating evidence mishandling and potential jeopardy to criminal prosecution.
Under the supervision of the Supervisor I, Resource Services Unit, the Analyst I reviews and analyzes basic to semi-complex information, subpoenas, court orders, and other legal documents and regulations for lawful handling of evidence.
Background check and fingerprinting are required.
Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025 and related Pay Differential 386. PLP 2025 requires employees to receive a reduction in pay in exchange for monthly hours of PLP 2025 leave credits. The salary range(s) included in this posting do not reflect this reduction.
Responsibilities
- Record, inspect, maintain, receive, issue, and record inventory of evidence and state records.
- Account for and dispose of property and state records in accordance with applicable Government Codes, the State Administrative Manual, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure strict compliance with evidence chain of custody procedures to meet legal requirements.
- Review and analyze basic to semi-complex information, subpoenas, court orders, and other legal documents and regulations for lawful handling of evidence.
- Maintain evidence rooms for the Regional Offices.
Requirements
- Experience recording, inspecting, maintaining, receiving, issuing, and recording inventory.
- Experience accounting for and disposing of property and state records in accordance with applicable regulations and policies.
- Ability to ensure compliance with evidence chain of custody procedures.
- Ability to review and analyze legal documents and regulations.
Pay
- Classification ANALYST I A: $3,861.00 - $4,839.00 per month
- Classification ANALYST I B: $4,181.00 - $5,233.00 per month
- Classification ANALYST I C: $5,014.00 - $6,276.00 per month
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Work Location: Sacramento County (in-office, with routine travel to the Golden Gate Regional Office in Benicia).
