About the role
This position serves as a Composite Technician at DAS Aviation, performing repairs on parts/components through wet layup and prepreg methods. Duties include using close tolerance measuring tools, hand tools, and aligning components using jigs, templates, and fixtures. Safety protocols and maintenance of shop facilities are also part of the job.
Responsibilities
- Repairs parts/components using wet layup and prepreg methods.
- Facilitates repairs in clean rooms using autoclaves or ovens.
- Utilizes various bonding methods including co-curing, co-bonding, secondary bonding, metal bonding, and adhesives.
- Uses close tolerance measuring tools and hand tools for precision work.
- Aligns and assembles components using jigs, templates, and fixtures.
- Operates a "Hot-Bonder" type machine for curing procedures.
- Maintains and cleans shop facilities and equipment.
- Operates shop equipment such as curing ovens and autoclaves.
- Uses basic computer skills to navigate training manuals and databases.
- Communicates effectively in English.
- Performs job-related tasks as assigned by supervisor or management.
Requirements
- A High school diploma or equivalent.
- Airframe and Powerplant License is not required but is welcome.
- A valid driver's license for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal but not mandatory.
- Journeyman: 0-5 years of experience as composite technician.
- Master: 5+ years’ experience as a composite technician.
- Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable transportation to work each day.
- Complies with FAA guidelines and follows company safety rules.
- Works in a customer-oriented manner.
Qualifications
- Lifts up to 50 lbs.
- Performs routine walking, bending, squatting, and sitting.
- Handles repetitive physical motions with arms and hands.
- Climbs ladders and stairs.
- Stands for long periods of time.
Skills
- Close tolerance measuring tools (scales, micrometers, calipers, depth gauges).
- Hand tools (drill motors, die grinders, rivet guns, fastener installation tools).
- Alignment/assembly using jigs, templates, and fixtures.
- PPE for cutting, grinding, blending, and sanding.
- Bagging materials for various component shapes and styles.
- Use of a "Hot-Bonder" type machine for curing procedures.
- Basic computer skills for navigating electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases.
- Effective communication (speaking, writing, reading) in English.
