About the role

The Aging Case Aide 2 - Protective Services position provides support to Protective Services Investigators and Protective Services Supervisors within the Protective Services unit of the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) department.

This position reports directly to the Aging Care Management Supervisor 2 - Protective Services and does not exercise supervision over other employees.

Responsibilities

  • Attends supervisory conferences and unit meetings as scheduled.
  • Attends training, locally or out-of-town, as approved by the Supervisor.
  • Cooperates with co-workers and staff of other divisions of the Department of Human Services and community agencies in the provision of service to shared consumers when appropriate.
  • Serves as a contact for banks and develops relationships with key personnel at financial institutions.
  • Assists with gathering financial information on financial exploitation cases and obtains financial statements when indicated.
  • Accompanies consumers to bank if necessary to receive bank records.
  • Obtains state reporting forms and incident reports from facilities (nursing homes, assisted livings, personal care homes, and adult day care centers).
  • Completes home visits as directed to assist with various errands such as picking up paperwork or dropping off food.
  • Keeps resource information current.
  • Provides assistance to Protective Services staff with tasks such as taking Reports of Need (RONs) for Protective Services, processing and tracking assignment of RONs, and completing required notifications.
  • Enters RONs and/or progress notes for Protective Services Care Managers and/or Supervisors when needed.
  • Provides telephone contact support to implement and/or ensure follow-through with designated areas of consumers' care plans as directed by the Protective Services Unit Director or Supervisors.
  • Follows up with physicians to obtain reports and/or schedule competency evaluations.
  • Orders necessary formal/contract services and processes service notifications in the Social Assistance Management System (SAMS).
  • Reestablishes support networks for isolated consumers.
  • Assists with the relocation process, including completing housing or nursing home applications, following up with facilities, and arranging emergency shelter.
  • Assists Protective Services Aging Care Managers with gathering other necessary information.
  • Faxes and emails information as directed, checks fax folders, and distributes faxes.
  • Documents all case activity in the SAMS Protective Services Care Plan Journal.
  • Completes necessary steps to close the consumer to Protective Services as needed.
  • Completes filing as directed.
  • Assists with running reports in SAMS, such as Reports of Need (RONs) and Protective Services Investigator (PSI) missing data reports.
  • Deletes and shreds files in accordance with Protective Services regulations.

Requirements

  • One (1) year as a Case Aide 1 (Local government); OR
  • Two (2) years of public contact work, including one (1) year in a human services program; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Valid and current motor vehicle operator's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Personal vehicle required for County business; eligible for mileage reimbursement.

  • Ability to obtain, evaluate, and analyze information from interviews, reports, records, and other sources.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ability to learn about Area Agency on Aging Programs and the services of other community agencies.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with older persons.
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic computations.
  • Ability to follow simple verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and persuasively to elderly clients, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English, including telephone contacts, face-to-face contacts, and communications in large and small group settings.
  • Ability to read English in both cursive and printed forms.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information received in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to travel to and interact with consumers, community members, and representatives of other social agencies in their homes, offices, and other community locations.
  • Ability to attend training as required, either locally or out-of-town.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear.

Work Environment

  • The office environment is moderately quiet.
  • May also work in other environments such as schools, private homes, etc., which may range from quiet to loud.

Pay

Pay Grade: PS-29B

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime)
