40 hours per week including rotating Saturdays (1-2 per month) and Monday evenings (This may vary during the first month while training)

Adult Services Duties
- Creating and performing virtual or in person adult programs on various topics
- Making and executing take-and-make activity kits, as applicable
- Maintaining awareness of new adult materials in the collection
- Maintaining the adult collection consisting of fiction and non-fiction books, audiobooks, large print, DVDs, video games, board games, kits, and special collection items
- Processing slips for cataloging
- Managing the adult programming and materials budgets
- Coordinating with the Youth Librarian and Director on library initiatives
- Performing outreach with local organizations, retirement homes, and senior communities
- Overseeing the Seed Library
- Generating a monthly report for review for the Director and the Library Board
General Duties
- Serving the public at the circulation desk by checking in and out library materials and issuing/updating library cards
- Collecting money for overdue fines and lost and damaged materials
- Ensuring circulation policies and procedures are followed for the proper handling of patron and materials records for an accurate library database
- Sorting, packing, unpacking, and inspecting library materials received from or being delivered to other libraries
- Running reports and lists for item hold information and interlibrary loan requests
- Searching shelves for requests, retrieving items requested, and routing items appropriately, as well as for overdue items prior to sending overdue notices
- Contacting patrons or other libraries as necessary
- Providing assistance to patrons and staff in the use of library equipment and machines
- Assisting with curbside delivery / locker pickup as needed
- Familiarizing self with general library policies and enforcing them as necessary
- Placing and filling item hold requests
- Providing library and directional information to patrons in person or over the telephone
- Attending and participating in any staff meetings or other meetings with supervisor
- Performing other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Proficient computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Drive
- Able to work with general supervision and adhere to established policies and procedures
- Interpersonal and communication skills for interaction with staff and patrons in an effective and courteous manner
- Able to retrieve materials from shelves upon patron or staff request
- Able to push/pull fully loaded book carts, retrieve or place materials above shoulder or below knee level, and transport materials and delivery bags weighing up to 40 pounds
- Able to operate a variety of equipment including cash register, fax, and copy machines
- Valid MI driver’s license and/or available transportation for travel to workshops and library-related meetings
- Possession of or ability to obtain at least a Level 4 Library Staff Certification from the Library of Michigan
- High School Diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Related experience orchestrating programs and events for adults preferred
- Experience working in a library preferred
