About the role
The Dutchess BOCES Adult Learning Institute seeks dynamic instructors to teach English Language Learners in a welcoming, supportive, and educational setting. Classes are offered year-round on an open enrollment schedule and include low, intermediate, and high-level general ESOL instruction, as well as contextualized ESOL classes linked to career certifications.
Responsibilities
- Teach English Language Learners in a variety of settings including evening Culinary programs and daytime Home Health Aide programs.
- Work with a multi-level student population ranging from 18 years and older.
- Engage in classes lasting 3-4 hours per day over 2 to 4 days per week, depending on the location.
- Assist students in improving their English speaking, writing, and communication skills relevant to the community and workforce.
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- K-12 Permanent Certification recommended but not required.
- Candidates without NY State certification must be willing to apply for Adult Education Certification and complete the process within 6 months of employment.
- Experience working with adults of varied backgrounds required.
- Previous teaching of adults and/or non-native English speakers is desired.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of adult education principles and practices.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Schedule
Classes run 3-4 hours per day over 2 to 4 days per week, depending on the location.
Pay
$25-30 per hour, depending on class assignment.
