English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor

Responsibilities
- Teach courses in ESL using various teaching methods including demonstrations, active learning strategies, and lectures in a classroom or laboratory setting.
- Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.
- Maintain regular posted office hours and be accessible to students.
- Create an environment conducive to effective learning.
- Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum, policies, and procedures for the program.
- Participate in campus governance and professional activities (e.g. committees, scheduling, leadership positions, faculty meetings, etc.).
- Participate in staff development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.
- Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Requirements
- Master's in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis or education with a TESL emphasis OR Bachelor's in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND Master's in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech or any foreign language; OR the equivalent.
- Experience teaching English language learners at beginning, intermediate, and/or advanced levels.
- Experience teaching Linguistics.
- Experience teaching in multiple modalities, including in-person, online synchronous, and online asynchronous courses.
- Community College teaching experience.
- Experience in developing course outlines, online courses, and/or certificate programs.
- Experience with learning management systems.
- Certification in distance education.
- Experience using GenAI in educational settings.
- Knowledge about or experience working with students who are underrepresented in higher academia, with the goal of reducing equity gaps.
- Teaching experience that reflects innovative pedagogy, including active learning and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Experience with the development and teaching of distance education classes.
Qualifications

Pay
Starting salary is from $72,928 to $100,966 per year depending upon education and experience.
Schedule
This is a full-time, tenure track classroom teaching assignment in the ESL, Credit Division. The current teaching load is 15 instructional hours per week. Members of the full-time faculty will hold five office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position.
