About the role
Wilbur Wright College’s Adult Education Department seeks a part-time Adult Educator to provide English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction. The role supports adult students who need to improve English and basic literacy skills, obtain a GED, prepare for citizenship, or transition to college and career pathways. The position requires a passion for teaching, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to the community college mission. Instruction is delivered in-person at Wilbur Wright College, Humboldt Park Vocational Education Center, and off-campus community sites.
Responsibilities
- Provide ESL instruction aligned with Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) using CCC Adult Education core materials, including those in BrightSpace; customize with supplemental materials as appropriate.
- Develop and share course syllabi based on the CCC Adult Education master syllabus, ensuring students understand expectations.
- Conduct formal and informal assessments to measure progress toward SLOs and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Take attendance, monitor enrollment and retention, submit grades, and enter data into the student system in a timely manner.
- Complete 12 professional development hours annually per ICCB requirements.
- Assist with program registration and orientation as requested; attend staff development and program meetings.
- Stay current with state and federal Adult Education policies and regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university required; preferred fields include Adult Education, Education, Elementary or Secondary Education with ESL endorsement, English, Linguistics, Reading, or TESOL.
- Master’s degree in a related field preferred (e.g., Adult Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Education, Educational Policy, Elementary or Secondary Education, English, Linguistics, Literacy Studies, Reading, Teaching, or TESOL).
- International degrees must be evaluated by a certified provider.
- Teaching and/or tutoring experience required.
- Must complete ICCB ESL Standards Proficient Instructor Training within the second year of hire.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook).
Special Requirements
- Ability and willingness to travel between Wilbur Wright College, Humboldt Park Vocational Education Center, and off-campus community sites.
- Availability to teach mornings (9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) or evenings (5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.).
Pay
$41.23 per hour, in accordance with the respective bargaining agreement.
