English as a Second Language Teacher (ESL)

Responsibilities

• Values, Expectations, and Commitment: Commit to the school’s values and mission, hold high expectations for each student, and help every student achieve their full potential.
• Student Learning: Take ownership of student achievements and learning progress, actively develop solutions to problems, and utilize school-provided resources.
• Teaching and Assessment: Plan and deliver vibrant, engaging lessons with measurable goals within the school’s standards-aligned framework. Administer regular formative assessments to target instruction to student needs. Teachers may use provided curricular materials or design their own.
• Culture and Classroom Management: Model and communicate behaviors aligned with the school’s high-expectations culture and caring climate. Apply school and classroom rules consistently, use preventive discipline, and supervise students effectively.
• Teamwork and Professional Development: Collaborate with peers, attend professional development sessions, participate in planning meetings, and engage in professional learning communities (PLCs) to support and learn from colleagues.
• Special Needs and ELL Students: Work collaboratively with special education and ELL staff to implement programs and comply with state and federal regulations.

Requirements

• Possess a NJ Department of Education CE, CEAS, or Standard Certificate to teach English as a Second Language (ESL). Candidates without the required certification cannot be hired.
• Experience is a plus.
