L2 - Test Engineer

Transdev Alternative Services in Atwater, CA is seeking a Senior Systems Test Engineer.

About the role

Responsible for the evaluation of systems and features, developing and maintaining evaluation methods, managing and executing test programs, analyzing and interpreting results, and communicating findings. Develops new test methods to improve quality and scalability.

Responsibilities

• Decompose system requirements and design test plans and verification strategies to provide necessary evidence for product/service release
• Improve the quality and coverage of system verification
• Build new processes that improve organization, traceability, and clarity
• Develop new tools that improve the repeatability, efficiency, or completeness of testing
• Create new test frameworks and capabilities, including simulation-based, hardware-in-the-loop, or other methods
• Identify missing or untestable requirements, gaps in design, and incomplete implementation
• Develop novel approaches to evaluate the system
• Develop and improve processes that increase operational efficiency of test execution
• Debug and resolve test-related failures, contribute to root cause analysis of system-related failures
• Communicate results and test status; build dashboards and visualizations within existing toolsets for stakeholder interpretation
• Provide technical guidance to the test team (Test Conductors, Vehicle Operators, Test Assistants)
• Lead the execution of vehicle and/or functional and performance test workstreams (define priorities, tasks, coordinate activities, deliverables, schedules, and delegate work)
• Mentor and train team members in testing methodologies, tools, and best practices
• Coordinate efforts to leverage external resources or expertise for comprehensive system validation testing
• Use simulation tools to model complex scenarios and test system behavior under various conditions
• Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to autonomous vehicle performance, including sensor discrepancies, software anomalies, and system integrations
• Apply Waymo policies, procedures, standards, and code of conduct
• Support other general structured testing as needed
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of vehicle systems and subsystems
• Ability to travel (> 10%) and on short notice
• Concise and effective verbal and written communication skills
• Operational skills and knowledge of systems engineering processes
• Organized, detail-oriented, and a fast learner
• Ability to work independently in ambiguous conditions
• Thrive in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a technical field (ME, EE, CS, Robotics, Controls, Aerospace)
• 4+ years of systems test experience
• Experience with system engineering principles (defining requirements, formal verification and validation methods)
• Test scripting understanding/execution for in-vehicle test automation (C/C++, Python, Matlab/Simulink)
• Demonstrated ability to interact with functional and technical counterparts to ensure system tests meet specifications
• Demonstrated communication and project management skills

• Most work is accomplished outdoors

Pay

Competitive compensation package ranging from $120,640 to $137,280 annually.
