About the role

The Administrator of Public Safety leads and enhances the District's comprehensive school safety and security initiatives, collaborating with District leadership to foster safe, secure, and welcoming learning and working environments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the District's lead administrator for school safety, security, emergency preparedness, and public safety initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent, District Cabinet, Administrative Leadership Team (ALT), Director of Human Resources, and building administrators to develop and implement comprehensive safety and security strategies.
  • Maintain the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in all personnel, investigative, and safety-related matters.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and annually review the District's Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), Crisis Response protocols, and related emergency management procedures.
  • Lead districtwide emergency preparedness efforts, including planning, training, tabletop exercises, drills, and after-action reviews.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver professional learning for administrators, staff, and other stakeholders on school safety, emergency response, crisis management, threat prevention, and security procedures.
  • Provide consultation, guidance, and technical assistance to school administrators regarding safety, security, emergency response, student discipline matters, and crisis situations.
  • Serve as chairperson of the District Safety Committee and the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Committee.
  • Conduct or coordinate internal investigations involving employee misconduct, policy violations, and other personnel matters.
  • Coordinate with local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, school safety personnel, and other community partners.
  • Oversee the administration and compliance of criminal history background check processes.
  • Prepare reports, recommendations, and presentations related to school safety, security, compliance, investigations, and emergency preparedness.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and best practices related to school safety, security, emergency management, and public safety.
  • Successful experience in school safety, law enforcement, emergency management, public safety administration, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive safety and security programs, policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable legal requirements, investigative practices, and ethical standards governing public education and public safety.
  • Proven leadership skills, including the ability to effectively supervise, organize, and coordinate personnel, programs, and resources.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with District administrators, staff, students, families, public safety agencies, and community partners.
  • Ability to analyze information, maintain accurate and confidential records, prepare comprehensive reports, and make sound, data-informed recommendations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other technology platforms necessary to perform the responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and non-business hours, as needed to support District operations and respond to emergencies.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The work year consists of 200 workdays, which include all student days of instruction, as well as days prior to and following the school year as determined by the Superintendent.
