About the role

Oversee the Public Safety Program at the hospital, and its remote sites. This program is responsible for the personal safety of the staff, patients, and visitors; the protection of the rights of patients/clients with interactions to the legal system; the physical security of the premises; enforcement of a variety of Hospital policies as well as Federal and State Laws; parking issues and enforcement throughout the main campus and remote sites; and a variety of other safety issues.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with hospital departments, community agencies (e.g., fire, police, local building inspector, Town Administration, criminal courts), physicians, outside contractors, and other entities regarding personal and physical safety/security.
  • Participate in outside agency programs such as TriEpic.
  • Oversee staffing levels of the Department of Public Safety.
  • Ensure skill levels of Public Safety staff through the maintenance and continued development of a staff education and competency program.
  • Coordinate broad and/or specific training for hospital caregivers on topics including but not limited to: Active Shooter, De-escalation, and Defensive Tactics.
  • Chair a local Workplace Violence Committee made up of hospital leadership and various caregiver representatives throughout the organization.
  • Participate in a UMMH system level WPV Committee.
  • Comply with established division and program policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Attend a variety of meetings, conferences, and trainings as required and/or directed.
  • Demonstrate use of quality improvement in daily operations.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Encourage and support diverse views and approaches, demonstrate Standards of Respect, and contribute to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, clients and visitors.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Develop and maintain Department-specific Standard Operating Procedures within the Public Safety Department.
  • Review SOPs with staff upon hire, minimally annually and when there are changes.
  • Collect data necessary to conduct investigations into all thefts and vandalism incidents.
  • Assist in reaching conclusions as to the causes and prevention of incidents.
  • Maintain responsibility of the electronic access control system including ID badges.
  • Perform similar or related duties as required or directed.

Milford Addendum Additional Job Duties

  • Perform and monitor weekly and monthly inspections of Life Safety components, including all fire drills.
  • Participate in all investigations into causes of accidents and injuries to visitors/staff immediately after notification of the same, and report conclusions to the Manager/Director immediately.
  • Maintain responsibility of the electronic access control system including ID badges.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 2 years prior supervisory/management experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide effective participative leadership and ability to deal with the general public.
  • Ability to work under sometimes stressful conditions while maintaining a calm composure.
  • Strong analytical skills required to perform various data analysis techniques, review statistical and budgetary information, and synthesize information appropriately.

Preferred

  • 3 years prior supervisory/management experience.

Physical Demands And Environmental Conditions

  • Ability to mobilize quickly and efficiently.
  • Position requires walking and standing for long periods in all weather conditions.
  • May be exposed to bodily fluids and environmental hazards.

Pay

Exemption Status: Exempt

Hiring Range: $56,056.00 – $100,900.80. The final offer may vary within this range based on a candidate’s experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

Schedule

Schedule Details: Monday through Friday

Scheduled Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Shift: 1 – Day Shift, 8 Hours
