POSITION OVERVIEW
Harbor Health is seeking skilled Administrative Medical Assistants (AMAs) to join our growing team. Harbor Health is an entirely new multi-specialty clinic group in Austin, TX utilizing a modern approach to co-create health with those who get, give, and pay for it — allowing everyone to fully flourish. As a critical member of our clinical team, you will help ensure smooth clinic operations while delivering compassionate, member-centered care that aligns with our mission of transforming healthcare through our payvider model.
POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Member Experience & Communication
- Greet all patients and visitors in a professional and welcoming manner
- Prepare patients for their appointments and inform them of relevant and required information for their visit
- Provide clear communication to members around the services they are scheduled to receive
- Proactively communicate unexpected schedule delays to patients and assist with member comfort should delays arise
- Keep the reception and patient waiting areas clean and organized
- Obtain copies of insurance cards, driver's licenses, authorizations, referrals, and other required appointment documentation and save them appropriately in the practice EMR
- Perform demographic and insurance validation and inform patients of privacy policies and procedures
- Schedule patient appointments and follow-up appointments per established policies and procedures
- Collect patient co-payments, reconciliation charges, and outstanding balances upon check-in and submit batches daily
- Other duties as assigned
- Collaborate with the clinical team to execute care tasks as ordered by providers
- Deliver care in accordance with each member's individualized care plan
- Perform client intake, collect lab specimens, and administer immunizations
- Chart accurately in electronic medical records (EHR)
- Absorb minor procedures and other supportive functions for the clinical team
- Complete opening and closing tasks each day to prepare for daily clinic operations
- Support the care team to ensure members' needs are met and hand-offs are appropriately conducted
DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Required:
- High School Degree or equivalent
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or ability to renew/apply for certification
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in primary care or similar clinical environment
- Current CPR Certification
- Computer proficiency with the ability to enter information in EHR systems and compile reports or data as requested
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Excellent customer service and support skills; ability to organize and prioritize workload and meet deadlines
- Effective and professional communication — verbal and written — with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds
- Consistent demonstration of positive, proactive customer service and ethical behavior
- Ability to work effectively as a team member while functioning independently with sound judgment
- Flexibility to shift priorities, maintain confidentiality, and establish effective interpersonal work relationships
- Preferred:
- Bilingual in English/Spanish
- BLS Certification
- Phlebotomy Certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work rotating shifts in a physically demanding, moderate-stress environment
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, and repetitive motions
- Full range of body motion including handling and lifting clients
- Light to moderate work with 50 lbs. maximum weight to lift and carry
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, handle objects, talk and/or hear, and see
