About the role
Perform a variety of administrative tasks aimed to optimize the time and performance of a manager or employees of a department. Tasks may involve acting as a first point of contact, dealing with correspondence and phone calls, managing diaries, organizing meetings and appointments, preparing documents or reports, and controlling access to the manager or the department. May involve dealing with confidential information. This role supports a minimum of one Vice President plus at least two additional leaders from the following: Division VPs, Sr. Directors, or Directors.
Responsibilities
- Answer telephones and assist callers or those making varied inquiries
- Act as first point of contact for the department
- Manage correspondence and phone calls
- Organize diaries, meetings, and appointments
- Prepare documents or reports
- Control access to the manager or department
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree (Preferred)
- 4–6 months basic experience with simple office or operational systems (Required)
- 2 years of experience (Preferred)
- Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (Preferred)
- Previous Administrative Assistant or Secretary experience supporting Vice Presidents and Senior Directors (Preferred)
- Excellent organizational skills (Preferred)
- EPIC experience (Preferred)
- Familiarity with clinical operations (Preferred)

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, located in Norfolk, VA, is a 525-bed tertiary care facility that is home to the only Level I Adult Trauma Center and burn trauma unit in Hampton Roads, and also serves as the primary teaching hospital for Eastern Virginia Medical School.
