About the role
The Salvation Army, an international movement and evangelical part of the universal Christian church, seeks an administrative professional to support the Norfolk/Columbus operations. This role assists in business and administrative duties to meet human needs in the name of Jesus Christ without discrimination.
Responsibilities
- Process timecards for employees of both the Norfolk and Columbus operations.
- Handle all incoming and outgoing mail, including postage and special shipping.
- Manage petty cash purchases and reimbursements.
- Process volunteer paperwork and enter volunteers into the Volunteer Squared online program.
- Process volunteer timecards and enter them into Volunteer Squared weekly.
- Coordinate mail appeals in collaboration with the mail appeal company.
- Log and process Sunday offerings, tithes, and individual contributions.
- Process donations and deposits for all operations, including daily thrift store deposits for Norfolk and Columbus.
- Process invoices daily, including coding account numbers, for submission to DHQ Accounting Center.
- Maintain personnel and vehicle files as needed.
- Support the Christmas Red Kettle Campaign by processing kettle deposits, tracking totals, and managing bell ringer timecards.
- Send donation acknowledgements.
- Maintain and organize the approved filing system.
- Answer phone calls promptly.
- Supervise volunteers in areas of responsibility.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 2 years of experience in Administrative or Business Management or an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in management.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Ability to access payroll, timekeeping, and personal data via web-based systems.
- Strong administrative skills, including data entry, 10-key proficiency, attention to detail, and filing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.
- Valid driver’s license from your state of residence.
- Must pass all applicable background checks.
- Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on business.
- Must complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire.
Physical Requirements
- Limited physical effort required, including walking, standing, and lifting/carrying objects up to 50 lbs.

Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based at normal room temperature with low noise levels.
- May be exposed to weather conditions during special events, with moderate to loud noise levels.
- Occasional interaction with individuals having infectious and/or communicable diseases.
Pay
Starting at $17.50 per hour.
