About the Role

This is entry level professional and administrative staff work which provides important assistance within a department or agency. Incumbents perform routine and less complex duties and responsibilities in order to relieve a management official of a considerable amount of administrative detail in such functional areas as budget, finance, personnel, data processing and administration.

Responsibilities

  • Aids a department head in the administration of the agency to which assigned.
  • Participates in the performance of routine operational tasks.
  • Suggests, for the benefit of general policy changes, those operational defects which should be remedied.
  • Serves as a liaison between management and staff, assisting in the resolution of problems and concerns.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports and correspondence.
  • Analyzes revenues and expenditures; reviews budget estimates and assists in the determination of appropriations to be recommended by superior.
  • Studies and develops revised procedures for the fulfillment of routine activities.
  • Sees to the fulfillment of administrative detail; performs special assignments and submits reports based on such assignments.
  • Consults administrative superior on matters of general policy.
  • May be required to use automated equipment in conjunction with assigned duties and responsibilities.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University in Liberal Arts, one of the Social Sciences, or Public or Business Administration; or field closely related to assignment/functional area.
  • Some experience in secretarial and general clerical work or related functional area.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Benefits

The Prince George’s County Department of Social Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Administrative Assistant 1G, grade G18 position, in the Family Investment Division. This position is limited term grant funded (LTGF). Positions designated as limited-term grant-funded are temporary in nature and the employment period is contingent upon the grant's continued funding availability. This position does offer benefits.

Conditions of Employment

  • Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies.
  • Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
