Administrative Assistant 1
About the role
As an Administrative Assistant 1 within the Office of Unemployment Compensation Benefits Policy, you will help claimants, staff, and partners receive accurate information and timely support. This position supports a statewide mission to prevent, detect, and recover overpaid federal and state unemployment compensation benefits while offering opportunities to grow your skills in public service.
Responsibilities
- Answer inquiries from claimants, employers, staff, attorneys, and officials
- Analyze complex claims and resolve issues related to overpayments
- Draft letters, emails, and explanations based on unemployment compensation law
- Update claimant information, prepare lien payoff materials, and maintain accurate records
- Assemble cases for investigatory review and track follow-up actions
- Process incoming mail and support daily operational needs within the unit
Requirements
- Graduation from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of experience and training
- Federally compliant identification (U.S. Passport, REAL ID, or Military ID) at the time of conditional job offer
- Pennsylvania residency at the time of appointment
- Ability to perform essential job functions
- Eligibility to pass an enhanced background check under IRS Publication 1075, including:
- Fingerprint-based federal records check
- Pennsylvania State Police clearance
- Check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, or attended school within the last five years
- Citizenship/residency verification
Work Schedule
Full-time employment with hours from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, including a 30-minute lunch. Work hours may be negotiable. After a successful probationary period, telework may be available part-time from an approved location within Pennsylvania, subject to change.
