Full-time, regular position under general direction of a Commissioner of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission (“Commission”).

About the role

Serves as principal staff assistant to a Commissioner, coordinating daily office activities including development, prioritization, assignment, or performance of investigative or research work and responses to public inquiries regarding Commission rulings or complaints within the Commissioner’s jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

  • Provides information to the general public and collects comments or reactions to current or pending Commission rulings.
  • Acts as the Commissioner’s representative at public meetings or to the news media, assisting in the explanation of processes, rationale, and implications of Commission decisions.
  • Assists the Commissioner in maintaining contact and coordinating activities with other State agencies, the Legislature, or other official groups.
  • Serves as liaison to Commission Divisions or Departments, keeping the Commissioner informed of activities of special or continuing interest, staffing, and situations requiring administrative action.
  • Represents the Commissioner on agency task forces, committees, or work groups assigned to administer or develop policies, procedures, or projects.
  • Researches Commission records and other resources to provide relevant information on issues before the Commission; analyzes and interprets evidence or proposals; explores alternatives; and drafts decision documents.

Requirements

  • Completion of the curriculum requirements for a Baccalaureate degree in business or public administration, political science, or related fields.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in public relations or another public-oriented position.
  • Considerable knowledge of effective research techniques, statutes, rules, and regulations governing Commission activities; modern public administration principles and practices; and the legislative process.
  • Considerable skills in analyzing problems and adopting appropriate courses of action; communicating research findings orally and in writing; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; and presenting Commission determinations or rulings clearly and concisely at public meetings.
  • Some positions require willingness and ability to perform all job-related travel.

Schedule

Core work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Flexibility may be required based on agency needs.

Pay

Annual salary: $142,000.

  • Vacation leave: 15 days accrued annually during the first 1–5 years of service; 18 days for 5–10 years; 20 days for 10–20 years; 25 days for over 20 years.
