Adjunct Faculty, ESL
Job Summary
Teach English as a Second Language classes in the following areas: Beginning Low, Intermediate Low, Intermediate High, High, Advanced High, and Advanced.
Job Description
Instruct and engage adult learners using a communicative approach. Teach courses in subject field. Develop instructional materials. Assess student learning and assign grades. Attend required Adjunct meetings in the Fall and Spring semesters. Participate in college governance and other aspects of academic life. Maintain current knowledge of subject matter. Adjunct Faculty members are expected to maintain current in compliance training, including compliance under Title IX “Responsible Employee” and, if applicable, Clery Act Campus Security Authority.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in English, Linguistics, Education, or related field with experience teaching English language to adults.
- Ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree in TESOL or Linguistics with TESOL specialization or closely related field with at least twelve credit hours in TESOL.
- Experience teaching ESL to adult learners.
- Experience teaching ESL to adult immigrant and/or resident learners.
- Experience teaching ESL to adult learners with limited formal education.
- Experience teaching ESL to adults interested in further post-secondary education.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Be able to teach at our community sites.
