Adjunct Faculty - ESOL
About the role
Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. They are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided. Major Responsibilities include facilitating student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives, making optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods, supplementing and altering lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials, maintaining accurate student records, grades, and other requirements, engaging with students proactively and regularly in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and lead to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, demonstrating evidence of developing and implementing teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning, interacting with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complying with College policies, guidelines and expectations, maintaining a safe, quality educational environment, and must demonstrate the ability to promote an environment that reflects the broad backgrounds represented by our students and employees in which every individual feels respected and valued.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
- Make optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
- Supplement and alter, where appropriate, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials.
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
- Engage with students proactively and regularly in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and lead to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College.
- Demonstrate evidence of developing and implementing teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning.
- Interact with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complying with College policies, guidelines and expectations.
- Maintain a safe, quality educational environment.
Requirements
Education And Experience: A qualified faculty member in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) discipline meets both of the following criteria: Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in English for Speakers of Other Languages, applied linguistics, English, reading, or a related field, and Has one of the following: at least one year of teaching or tutoring experience in a second language, or an ESOL teaching endorsement, or an ESOL certification. Previous Teaching Experience is Required. College-level Teaching Experience Preferred.
