Position Summary

Instruct and facilitate meaningful learning of course outcomes, proactively supporting all facets of the learning environment. Provide education through learning‑centered instruction that enables graduates to meet evolving marketplace needs, while encouraging a culture of mutual responsibility, lifelong learning, diversity, ethics, and personal and professional development.

Essential Functions

• Manage the educational process to ensure every student experiences a positive learning, teaching, and social environment.
• Perform faculty responsibilities as outlined in the faculty job description and the Faculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook.
• Provide course instruction that aligns with the South University curriculum model and supports the institution’s delivery style.
• Design and deliver instruction through instructional plans, activities that support lesson objectives, and— for online courses—delivery within each course shell.
• Effectively utilize technology in the classroom to support the student learning experience.
• Enable achievement of predefined student outcomes and evaluate learning by fostering proficiency and establishing performance criteria.
• Deliver learning‑centered instruction by creating an educational environment conducive to learning and student involvement, and by planning and preparing for classes and student success.
• Promote student success by showing flexibility in style and work schedule, exhibiting a passion for teaching, and engaging students in the learning process.
• Manage the educational environment by keeping accurate records, submitting grades and reports on time, and enforcing academic and attendance policies.
• Relate professional, life, and industry experience to learning through ongoing skill development, industry perspectives in courses, and awareness of professional trends.
• Participate in faculty development to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities in learner‑centered instruction.
• Communicate consistently and effectively with supervisors, faculty, and other South University administrators.
• Contribute to a learning culture by participating in curriculum and system task forces, supporting local campus events such as orientation and graduation, and attending workshops and meetings.

Required Qualifications

• Faculty teaching general education courses at the undergraduate level: doctorate or master’s degree in the teaching discipline, or master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum 18 graduate semester hours).
• Faculty teaching associate‑degree courses designed for transfer to a baccalaureate degree: doctorate or master’s degree in the teaching discipline, or master’s degree with a concentration (minimum 18 graduate semester hours).
• Faculty teaching associate‑degree courses not designed for transfer: bachelor’s degree in the teaching discipline or associate’s degree with demonstrated competencies.
• Faculty teaching baccalaureate courses: doctorate or master’s degree in the teaching discipline, or master’s degree with a concentration (minimum 18 graduate semester hours).
• Faculty teaching graduate and post‑baccalaureate coursework: earned doctorate/terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
• Graduate teaching assistants: master’s degree in the teaching discipline or 18 graduate semester hours, direct supervision by an experienced faculty member, regular in‑service training, and periodic evaluations.
• Experience in instruction or a formalized education process, preferably at a post‑secondary or college institution.
• Membership in a professional association related to the area of instruction (preferred).
• Active, valid, and unencumbered state licensure or certification as applicable to the discipline.
• At least six months of teaching experience at South University or another post‑secondary institution (preferred); online teaching experience is a plus.
