Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is the largest community college district in the United States, serving over 225,000 students annually across nine colleges. This pool announcement seeks qualified adjunct instructors for Vocational Education, Tutor Training Non-Credit positions for the 2027 Academic Year. Positions are part-time and contingent upon enrollment, funding, and class availability.

About the role

The LACCD is seeking dynamic, motivated, and diverse candidates for part-time faculty positions to engage and educate students in tutor training methodologies aligned with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) standards. Successful candidates will collaborate with students, staff, faculty, and administrators, demonstrating a commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of Tutoring-related courses within the Noncredit Vocational Education discipline.
  • Conduct classes in virtual, hybrid, or hyflex modalities using Canvas or other online instructional platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in any field and two (2) years of full-time related professional experience, or
  • Associate degree in any field and six (6) years of full-time related professional experience.
  • Professional experience must be directly related to the teaching assignment.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff, and students.
  • Medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work (required for new employees at the applicant’s expense prior to employment).
  • COVID-19 vaccination required per LACCD Board of Trustees Policy 2900; vaccination status must be provided prior to or by the position start date.

Qualifications

  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or coordinating peer tutors or student workers.
  • Knowledge of tutor training methodologies aligned with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) standards.
  • Ability to design and facilitate engaging training sessions for diverse learners.
  • Strong understanding of effective tutoring strategies (e.g., questioning techniques, active learning, metacognition).
  • Ability to model and teach professional communication and ethical tutoring practices.
  • Experience supporting student success with attention to equity, inclusion, and diverse learning needs.
  • Ability to assess tutor performance and provide constructive, developmental feedback.
  • Verification of Employment (VOE) letter from a current or previous employer substantiating industry or professional knowledge, skills, and abilities in the areas listed above. The VOE must include:
    • Dates of employment;
    • Position title;
    • Full-time or part-time status (if part-time, indicate weekly percentage or hours worked);
    • Description of related duties performed.
  • Demonstrated certification in Canvas or other online instructional modalities (preferred).

Pay

The salary for adjunct noncredit instructors begins at $81.81 per standard hour.
