Adjunct - AY27 College Studies Instructor
Los Angeles Valley College is seeking qualified adjunct instructors for College Studies, a holistic introduction-to-college course designed to help new students acclimate to academic and social expectations. Instructors will guide students in identifying priorities, acquiring essential skills, and exploring campus services within the college’s Career and Academic Pathways (CAPs). Future sections may focus on specific CAPs or affinity groups (e.g., Black Scholars, Veterans).
About the Role
This part-time, pool-based posting establishes a roster of qualified candidates for potential openings during the 2026–2027 academic year. Selected applicants will teach web-enhanced, hybrid, or online sections using provided College 101 materials and collaborate with faculty across disciplines to support student success.
Responsibilities
- Teach assigned sections of College Studies using developed course materials in web-enhanced, hybrid, or online formats.
- Advise students and participate in program, campus, and CAP extracurricular activities.
- Contribute to college life through committee participation and professional development.
- Engage in Student Learning Outcome assessments and course evaluation processes.
- Assist in curriculum and program development for College 101.
- Hold scheduled student drop-in hours for support and mentorship.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in any field and two years of full-time professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment, or
- Associate degree in any field and six years of full-time professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Verification of employment (letter on company letterhead detailing dates, position title, full/part-time status, and related duties).
Desired Qualifications
- Professional development in culturally responsive teaching and student equity (e.g., TIA, Teaching Men of Color, ACE, ally training).
- Experience collaborating with instructors to refine and innovate course delivery.
- Certification to teach online in Canvas and additional professional development in online instruction.
Eligibility
All employees must comply with LACCD’s COVID-19 vaccination policy (full vaccination or approved exemption).
Pay
Adjunct instructors are compensated at $86.85 per standard hour, plus a $20.32 office-hour differential for classroom assignments. A doctoral differential is available for eligible applicants.
