Adjunct Assistant Professor - Criminal Justice (Criminalistics)
Job Summary
Periodically, adjunct teaching positions become available in Farmingdale's program in Criminal Justice: Law Enforcement Technology. This Bachelor of Science degree is a technical program that prepares students for careers in law enforcement on the local, state, and federal levels.
About the Role
The program blends coursework in computers, forensics, crime prevention, and technology to provide students with the necessary skills to control crime as well as to conduct investigations of crimes committed on a computer or at a crime scene. This current posting is for individuals with education and experience in Criminalistics (forensic science) in order to teach courses in Criminalistics and/or Forensic Technology.
Responsibilities
- Teach courses in Criminalistics and/or Forensic Technology
- Provide instruction in scientific crime scene investigation and reconstruction
- Conduct trace collection and preservation
- Utilize analytical microscopic and spectroscopic techniques for scientific analysis of traces
- Have a broad knowledge base concerning physical and chemical traces and biological traces
- Apply expertise in promoting civic engagement with the College's many community partners
Requirements
- A minimum of a Master's Degree in Forensic Science or Criminalistics
- Candidates with Master's Degrees in Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Toxicology or a related scientific field will be considered if they can demonstrate education, experience and/or scholarship in forensic science
Qualifications
A broad knowledge base concerning physical and chemical traces (e.g. fibers, fingermarks, drugs, etc.) and biological traces (e.g. blood/DNA) is required. In addition, candidates should have knowledge of microscopy, spectroscopy, chromatography, electrophoresis, digital photography and the various analytical techniques used to identify, compare and analyze the various trace types both at the scene and in the crime laboratory.
