About the role

As an ADC Donor Greeter, you'll serve as the first point of contact for donors while helping process donated goods that support our mission. From welcoming donors and accepting donations to preparing merchandise for resale, your work directly helps create opportunities and strengthen communities across our region.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist donors with unloading and bringing donations into the donation center
  • Accurately record donations using established tracking and reporting procedures
  • Sort donated goods into appropriate containers and categories for processing and transportation
  • Properly label carts, containers, and equipment used in donation handling
  • Sort, test, clean, and prepare donated merchandise for quality review and resale
  • Assist with loading and unloading merchandise, donations, and equipment as needed
  • Follow all safety procedures when handling donations, merchandise, and equipment
  • Greet donors and customers with a friendly and enthusiastic attitude
  • Create a welcoming experience that encourages continued community support
  • Assist donors with questions and provide information about Goodwill's mission and services
  • Address concerns professionally and respectfully while following organizational policies
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for Goodwill of the Finger Lakes in every interaction
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized donation and work areas
  • Assist with housekeeping and facility upkeep, including interior and exterior spaces
  • Support teammates and contribute to a positive workplace culture
  • Participate in cross-training opportunities and perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous retail, customer service, warehouse, donation center, or processing experience preferred, but not required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic math and recordkeeping skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to safety, organization, and quality standards
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of responsibilities throughout the day

Schedule

  • Must have open and flexible availability
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is required
  • Schedule may vary based on operational needs

Work environment

This role combines donation receiving, merchandise processing, and occasional retail responsibilities. Team members regularly interact with donors and customers and may work both indoors and outdoors when accepting donations. Work may also occur in donation processing areas with a warehouse-like environment. Some tasks may be performed independently while maintaining communication with supervisors and team members.

Physical requirements

  • Standing and walking for extended periods throughout the shift
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of donated items and equipment
  • Regular bending, reaching, crouching, kneeling, and other physical movements associated with donation handling and merchandise processing
  • Ability to safely move merchandise and donations of varying sizes and weights
  • Frequent indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to load, unload, sort, test, and clean donated items safely and efficiently
