About the Role
Plans, organizes, and directs medically approved activity programs for patients in the behavioral health setting. Directs and organizes activities such as sports, dramatics, games, and arts and crafts to assist patients in developing interpersonal relationships, effective socialization, and confidence needed for group participation.
Responsibilities
- Regulate program content according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests.
- Instruct patients in relaxation techniques (e.g., deep breathing, concentration) to reduce stress and tension.
- Teach calisthenics, stretching, limbering exercises, and individual/group sports.
- Counsel and encourage patients to develop leisure activities.
- Prepare progress charts and periodic reports for medical staff and the treatment team, reflecting patients' reactions and evidence of progress or regression.
- Supervise and conduct in-service training for staff members, review their assessments and program goals, and consult on selected cases.
- Train other members of the interdisciplinary team in activity therapy techniques.
Requirements
- Good knowledge of the English language.
- Computer literacy; experience with Microsoft Office or similar products preferred.
- Willingness to cross-train in other areas.
- Previous experience or training in providing structured activities.
- Commitment to adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct, including compliance with all policies and procedures, attendance at required training, and immediate reporting of suspected compliance issues.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED, or higher education required.
- Current CPR certification, in accordance with the AHA Healthcare Provider’s Program curriculum.
