About the role

The Senior Clinical Psychiatrist oversees all psychiatric service operations for the assertive community treatment team, including supervising a psychiatric nurse practitioner, providing direct services, and maintaining a medication room. The role adheres to the SAMHSA service delivery model for treating adults with persistent mental illness.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees psychiatric service operations for the assertive community treatment team
  • Supervises a psychiatric nurse practitioner
  • Provides direct services
  • Maintains a medication room
  • Oversees ACT medication room
  • Prepares or signs reports in a timely manner
  • Ensures hand written documents are legible and in accordance with safety writing procedures
  • Participates in daily team meetings
  • Ensures harmonious working relationships with co-workers, clients and others
  • Provides crisis intervention and/or ensures flexibility to intervene on emergency situations
  • Provides consultation services to, and develops treatment plans with clients and staff
  • Provides guidance and leadership with ACT clients
  • Administers medications in emergency situations
  • Provides psychiatric services where needed by clients including in homes, shelters, and other community locations

Requirements

  • Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as a General Psychiatrist (Diplomate)
  • Possession of a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy Degree
  • Three years of experience in the practice of Psychiatry at the level of Clinical Psychiatrist
  • Satisfactory completion of a residency program in Psychiatry
  • Current, valid license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Licence of registration with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and ability to hold a National Provider Identifier (NPI)

Qualifications

  • Preferred qualifications include bilingualism in English/Spanish, French, African, or Middle Eastern languages, and at least three years’ experience in the supervision and administration of an outpatient or inpatient clinical psychiatric service.
