About the role

The Accounts Payable/Accountant operates under regular supervision to perform activities of the accounting department necessary for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial reports and the accurate, timely processing of accounts payable and employee expense reports.

Responsibilities

  • Process disbursement activities, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, employee expense reports, and cash control.
  • Coordinate certain wire payments with the Treasurer.
  • Record activity for corporate credit cards.
  • Answer vendor and employee inquiries, working with them toward timely resolution.
  • Prepare required journal entries associated with cash activities, reconcile cash accounts.
  • Assist with maintenance of Oracle payable and general ledger modules and the Concur vendor and employee payment processing modules.
  • Maintain strong internal controls in the accounting department, including reconciliation of key accounts to supporting sub-ledger or detail.
  • Perform account analyses and assist with the preparation of ad hoc analyses, reports, and special projects as needed.
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of documentation for the annual audits, annual budgets, and other internal and external reporting as needed.
  • Identify ways to continuously improve the monthly accounting close process through technology and process enhancements.
  • Maintain accounting records and files.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Two plus (2+) years of general accounting experience.
  • Insurance industry experience and knowledge of insurance statutory accounting principles a plus.

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to identify and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with technology, specifically Microsoft Windows and Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and accounting systems; Oracle experience a plus.
