About the Role
Perform professional accounting duties to maintain control over expenses, income, assets, and liabilities of the hotel to ensure the security of the company’s assets in a centralized accounting environment. Manage the accounting team.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Director of Finance with preparation of the budget, strategic plan, and goals.
- Perform or assist in the performance of month-end closing, including inputting and reconciling all income for closing, preparing reports, verifying trial balance, and running financial statements for management review.
- Manage daily accounting activities, including planning, organizing, and assigning work to ensure all accounting standards are maintained.
- Alert management of potentially serious issues.
- Input general ledger entries and journal vouchers, ensuring all daily transactions are posted and updated in a timely manner and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Maintain control over bookkeeping functions, including preparation and review of subsidiary ledgers.
- Prepare tax reconciliations, payments, reports, and filings (monthly, quarterly, and annual) as required by state, city, and federal agencies.
- Perform or assist in balance sheet reconciliations and bank reconciliations.
- Participate in monthly inventory taking and verification of extensions; conduct monthly credit meetings and distribute minutes as needed.
- Review and verify accounts payable input/output, accounts receivable posting and billing, and maintain the daily income report, ensuring all necessary schedules are completed on time.
- Manage other AP and AR-related duties, such as controlling accommodation advance deposits, preparing monthly invoices, monitoring house banks/investments, and analyzing cashiers’ overs and shorts.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports in accordance with reporting calendars.
- Perform financial and statistical analysis, forecasting, and complete special projects as needed.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments, including Catering, Sales, Reservations, and Front Office.
- Audit payroll and supervise the Accounting department in the absence of the Director of Finance.
- Interact with guests to resolve billing disputes and provide service to accounts; coordinate with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and external audits.
- Ensure accounting staff are properly trained and equipped to carry out their job functions.
- Perform additional accounting functions such as reconciling gratuities for payroll, maintaining contract logs, auditing or approving vendor payments, and reviewing the work of Income Auditors.
- Lead by example with integrity, respect, and a focus on the mission and well-being of the department, hotel, and company.
Requirements
- BA/BS in Accounting and/or Business.
- Two to five years of prior supervisory experience in financial reporting/general ledger.
- Previous experience with HOAs and commercial real estate is a plus.
- PC proficiency and strong experience with Microsoft Excel.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, supervisory, and customer service skills.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Flexibility with schedules; some weekends may be required due to business needs.
- Assistance in other departments may be required due to business needs.
Pay
$60,000–$65,000 per year, commensurate with experience and education. This position is bonus eligible, with a target bonus of 10% of annual base salary.
